2025 Camp Good News® Service Opportunities
There is much to be done at camp! Thank you for your interest in serving the Lord on the Camp Good News® (CGN) staff. God makes this ministry happen through the labors of His people who give of themselves so the children can hear the Good News and enjoy the love of Christ demonstrated through their service. Each year God uses the camp experience to draw many to the Savior!
Below is a list of volunteer staff positions for camp along with their minimum age requirements and primary responsibilities. Coming to camp on staff is no vacation, but it is an investment in heavenly treasures that will bless your heart for eternity! (Matthew 6:20) All staff positions are equally vital to the success of the camp, and all will prosper as they keep Christ as their focus, trusting Him for necessary strength and wisdom as the challenges of the work are confronted.
CABIN COUNSELOR (2 per cabin): 18 years of age or older with a God-given desire to minister to children; born again with a good testimony of obedience to Christ; and is willing to be trained in the principles of first aid and CPR—this is not a certificate.
Supervises assigned cabin group of children, overseeing their safety and well being.
Leads morning and evening cabin prayer, devotions, and share times—emphasizing the importance of salvation through faith in Christ.
Enthusiastically leads their group to the scheduled activities and participates in the activities unless arrangements have been made for others to oversee their cabin group in the activity.
Enforces camp rules, correcting misbehavior and rewarding good behavior.
Cooperates with the Dean, reporting any unresolved problems to him.
Encourages Bible verse memorization and keeps a record of verses learned for the Dean.
Shows equitable concern and care for each camper, sharing God’s love for them in word and deed.
Helps maintain order at his/her table during meal time.
Attends scheduled counselor/staff meetings.
Does not leave camp during breaks without permission first.
Does not disrupt ongoing programs during breaks.
Stays with cabin group after 9:15PM lights out unless arrangements are made for other staff to watch over your group.
ASSISTANT COOK: 18 years of age or older with cooking experience—knowledge of cooking for large groups is helpful; born again with a servant’s heart; and, the ability to work congenially with others.
Prepares meals on the menu as directed by the Head Cook.
Is aware of any food allergies we may have that week and has worked with the Head Cook to ensure they have food.
Helps with the efficient utilization and storage of all food items.
Cleans food preparation areas and equipment after use and assures their safe operation and storage.
Assists with the cleaning of dishes.
Works with the Head Cook on matters pertaining to the service of meals and storage of leftover food.
Attends staff meetings and evening chapel services as time permits.
Does not leave camp unless arranged with the camp director, nor disrupts ongoing programs during breaks.
Ensures that the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned at the end of each camp session and ready for the next week of camp.
LIFEGUARD: 16 years of age or older with a current lifeguard , CPR/AED and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel certificates; has a great understanding for the safety of others; and is gentle, yet authoritative. For those wishing to become lifeguard certified, please contact the office—we may be able to help cover the costs associated with becoming a certified lifeguard.
Carefully supervises the pool, during pool time, to ensure patron safety.
Enforces pool rules, correcting any dangerous or potentially dangerous behavior in the pool area.
Gives each child a swimming test during the first afternoon to determine if a life vest is required.
Helps anyone in the pool that needs help.
Encourages the children to play in a considerate and fair manner.
Helps maintain the cleanliness of the pool area at all times.
Secures the pool area when not in use—making sure the gate is locked after the last period of the day or, in between periods if a lifeguard is not going to be present.
Attend in-service orientation the first morning of the camp week in which you are serving.
Reports any hazardous concerns, injuries and supervision issues to senior staff.
Communicates regularly with other lifeguards, any information significant to the well-being of those being supervised.
MEDICAL STAFF: 18 or older with proper medical license: Dr., P.A., Nurse, Paramedic, etc.
Administers first aid to campers or staff that are injured or become ill at camp.
Receives and safely stores all medication needed by campers when they check-in and sees that they take their proper dosage at the proper times each day as directed on their medication or camp form.
Checks each child at registration for any contagious condition.
Oversees the operation of the “Camp Hospital,” ensuring that we have the necessary medical supplies, and making sure the needs of any camper or staff are being met.
Communicates with parents regarding any illness or injury of a camper or minor staff (those under the age of 18).
Stays on camp grounds at all times unless an emergency situation arises and other arrangements have been made.
Keeps a log of all visits to the nurse, including the time, name, and visible symptoms.
Keeps the Director informed of any illness or injury that is moderate to severe or potentially troublesome.
Informs the Director of medical supplies needed.
BIBLE TEACHER: An adult, 18 years of age or older, with a God-given desire to minister to children; born again with a good testimony of obedience to Christ; and undisputable knowledge of biblical teaching.
Teaches children, in up to three classes a day, the Bible story and memory verse presented in the current curriculum set that will be pre-chosen before camp by the camp Director.
Makes sure each child has a clear understanding of the Gospel.
Ends each class with a clear invitation for each child to accept Christ as their personal Savior.
Communicates with the counselors any decision(s) that may have been made by a child during Bible.
Strives to make the Bible come alive by presenting a lesson that is engaging and interactive (activities are encouraged).
MISSIONS TEACHER: And adult, 18 years of age or older, with a God-given desire to minister to children and , who is born again with a testimony of obedience to Christ. Missions trip experience not required. The missions teacher can use personal missions experience or Child Evangelism Fellowship® approved missionary stories to teach the children.
Teaches children in up to three classes a day.
Makes sure the children understand who/what a missionary is.
Attempts to cultivate a desire within each child to see those who are unsaved come to know the Lord—whether this be in their home, at school, with their friends, etc.
R.T.B. (Recreation/Trash/Bathrooms): 14 years of age or older with a desire to serve others with a cheerful heart; takes direction well from their supervisors; and is in good physical and spiritual health. This position will require you to help in other aspects of camp ministry as well, the below list is only part of this positions duties.
Recreation
Help set-up/tear-down rec. events.
Help supervise various camp activities throughout the day.
Encourage and motivate the children to do their best in whatever it is they are doing.
Trash
Continually monitors trashcans throughout the camp (kitchen, dinning hall area, bathrooms, etc.)—emptying them and lining them with new trash bags as needed.
Bathrooms
Clean all bathrooms each day (showers, toilets, sinks, trashcans, etc.)
Restock supplies as needed.
